Robot Vacuum Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi connection problems are common enough during setup that most manufacturers have a standard set of fixes worth trying in order.
Quick fix
Almost all robot vacuums need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network specifically — not 5GHz, and not a combined band name that might resolve to 5GHz. If your router broadcasts one combined network name, temporarily split it into separate 2.4GHz/5GHz names for pairing. This single step resolves the majority of "won't connect" reports.
Confirm the network band
Almost all robot vacuums need 2.4GHz specifically (see our Wi-Fi connection guide for why this is so common). If your router only broadcasts a combined 2.4/5GHz name, temporarily separate them for pairing, then reconnect afterward to a single name if you prefer.
Keep the robot close to the router during pairing
Complete the initial pairing handshake within a few meters of the router before letting the robot roam — a weak signal specifically during pairing (as opposed to during normal cleaning) is a common, easy-to-miss cause of setup failures.
Restart everything
Power-cycle the robot, your router, and close and reopen the app — a surprising share of connection failures clear up after a full restart of all three, since a stuck Wi-Fi radio state or a stale app session can each independently block pairing.
Check for a firmware or app update
Pairing bugs are commonly patched in firmware or app updates rather than requiring a workaround — check for an update before assuming the problem is on your end.
Reset and re-pair
If it still will not connect, use the app's "remove device" or factory reset option and start pairing from scratch. This clears any stuck connection state left over from a previous failed attempt.
Router-side settings that commonly interfere
A few router configurations specifically block smart-home device pairing: MAC address filtering (the robot's address needs to be allow-listed), AP/client isolation (blocks devices on the same network from reaching each other, which some setup flows require), and an overly aggressive firewall on a mesh router system. Check these in your router's admin settings if the steps above do not resolve it.
When to contact the manufacturer
If pairing consistently fails after all of the above — including on a different, known-working 2.4GHz network if you can test one — the robot's Wi-Fi hardware itself may be at fault, which is a manufacturer-support issue rather than something fixable through the app.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it have to be 2.4GHz — can this be fixed in a future update?
It is a hardware/radio limitation on most current robot vacuums, not a software restriction, so it is unlikely to change via a firmware update on an existing unit. Check your specific model's current specifications if 5GHz-only support matters to you before buying.
Can a VPN or guest network cause this?
A guest network with client isolation enabled can behave like AP isolation and block the pairing handshake — try pairing on your main network first, then decide whether guest-network isolation needs adjusting for your setup. A VPN active on your phone during pairing can also interfere; disable it temporarily if pairing keeps failing.
It connected once but keeps dropping — is that the same problem?
Not exactly — an initial pairing failure and a connection that drops after working are usually different causes. Dropping after a successful pairing more often points to Wi-Fi signal strength in the areas the robot cleans, rather than the pairing issues covered above.
