Setup & Mapping

First-Time Robot Vacuum Setup Checklist

A few minutes of setup prevents most of the early frustration with a new robot vacuum. Run through this checklist before its first real clean.

Prep the floor first

Pick up cables, small toys, and loose rugs with fringe before the first run — this is the run where the robot learns your layout, and clutter makes that first map messier than it needs to be.

Charge fully, then connect

Let the robot fully charge on its dock before the first clean, and connect it to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network in the app — most robots do not support 5GHz-only networks.

Run an exploration or mapping pass

Many robots do a dedicated first mapping run before their first real clean. Let it complete uninterrupted, then check the map in the app and label rooms before setting no-go zones or schedules.
