Hot Water Mop Washing Explained
Some premium docks wash mop pads with heated water instead of room-temperature water. Here is why that distinction matters.
Why temperature matters
Hot water is more effective than cold at breaking down grease, oils, and the residue that causes musty odors in mop pads, similar to why dishwashers and laundry use heated water for tougher loads.
What it changes day-to-day
Pads come out of a hot-water wash cycle noticeably cleaner and less prone to developing an odor between uses, which matters most if the dock is in an enclosed space like a closet.
It is not a substitute for periodic hand-washing
Even with hot-water washing, giving pads an occasional deeper hand wash catches buildup the automatic cycle may not fully remove over months of use.
