Robot vacuums span a huge price range, and the difference is not always obvious from the spec sheet. Knowing where the money goes helps you spend it well.
What budget buys
Inexpensive robots handle daily maintenance cleaning on hard floors and light carpet well enough. The compromises tend to show in navigation (bump-and-go instead of mapped), no app or a limited one, and no self-empty base.
What premium adds
Higher-end robots add mapped navigation, camera or LiDAR obstacle avoidance, self-emptying and often self-washing docks, and meaningfully better handling of pet hair and mixed flooring.
How to decide
Spend where it affects daily friction: navigation and base automation are what determine whether you actually keep using the robot in six months.
